Oil Paintings By Bierstadt and Russell Go For Millions

Oil paintings by Albert Bierstadt and Charles M. Russell have been auctioned for millions at the Coeur d'Alene Art Auction. The two oil paintings by Bierstadt went for a total of $4 million and the two paintings by Russell got sold for almost $3 million.
The oil paintings by Bierstadt featured the mountains Mount Rainier and Lander's Peak and they were painted in 1898 and 1863 respectively. The oil paintings by Russell featured the "Water for Camp" from 1892 and "A Dangerous Sport" from 1924.
The annual auction was attended by almost 300 buyers and the Bierstadt oil paintings went to different collectors while both the Russell paintings were snapped up by the same private collector.
This annual auction has been in place since 1984 and made around $17 million in the auction of around 300 artworks this year. The organizers faced a couple of harsh years due to the recession slump but the graph is upwards again. They have a reputation for selling Russell paintings at record prices and have secured 8 of the 10 top auction prices for his works.
