First Museum of Christian Art Opening in Mumbai

Mumbai is set to get its first museum of Christian art very soon. This museum of Christian art is scheduled to open sometime in July next month. The Christian art museum will cover an area of 2,000 square-feet and will be housed at the St Pius seminary in Goregaon (E). The Christian art museum will have more than 150 objects on display, ranging from an over-200-year-old church altar to church silver, statues of saints and even the mitre (head dress) of a past Pope. Fr Warner D'Souza, head of the Catholic Church Committee on Heritage feels that museum will sensitize Christians and the general public to Christian art and culture. The eye-opener for visitors at the museum is definitely the fact that the timeline of Christianity in the region is from 6 AD onwards.
